EYE MOVEMENT DESENSITIZATION & REPROCESSING (EMDR)

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a psychotherapeutic approach designed to alleviate the distress associated with traumatic memories. It's particularly effective for individuals who have had experiences that have left lasting emotional scars.

EMDR therapy involves several stages*:

  1. Assessment and Preparation: Therapist-client relationship established, traumatic memories identified, coping skills developed.

  2. Desensitization: Client recalls traumatic memory while experiencing bilateral stimulation.

  3. Reprocessing: Client explores connections between traumatic memory and other thoughts, leading to insights.

  4. Closure: Session ends with client stabilized and equipped with self-soothing strategies.

  5. Reevaluation: Therapist monitors progress, adjusts treatment plan as needed.

EMDR utilizes bilateral stimulation to aid the brain's natural healing process, integrating traumatic memories into the individual's cognitive and emotional framework.
